Investigation into Man's Death at 7819 Cullen
October 5, 2016 - Houston police are investigating the death of a man following a fire that occurred at 7819 Cullen at about 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 4).
The victim, Frederick Byrd, 83, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Senior Police Officer B. Evans reported:
Houston Fire Department personnel were dispatched to Byrd Plumbing Supply, at the above address, regarding a fire. An employee, who had exited the building, advised 9-1-1 call takers the owner, Mr. Byrd, was still inside. Patrol officers, upon their arrival, entered the building in an attempt to locate Byrd, but thick smoke and excessive heat hindered their efforts to locate him and they exited the building. Firefighters arrived and were able to locate Byrd and then extinguish the fire. Byrd had suffered burns and later died from injuries sustained in the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation by the HFD Arson Division.
