Sergeants Gonzalez and Holcomb arrived and saw Jackson standing next to his vehicle holding a shotgun. The sergeants gave Jackson repeated verbal commands to drop his weapon, but he refused. Jackson then raised the shotgun and pointed in the direction of the officers. Fearing for their lives, Sergeants Holcomb and Gonzalez discharged their duty weapons, but did not strike Jackson, who also discharged his shotgun. Jackson then placed the shotgun on the ground and surrendered.
