HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers S. Spivey and W. Huff reported:
Officers responded to a kidnapping/hostage in-progress call at a motel at the above address. The caller advised police the male inside one of the rooms was holding a female against her will. When officers knocked on the door to the room, the male fired several shots at the officers through the door. Officers retreated and took cover. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the room and, despite repeated commands to surrender, he did not come out of the room.
SWAT officers began negotiations with the male. During negotiations, several more shots were fired at the officers from inside the male's room. The suspect eventually released the female hostage unharmed. SWAT officers deployed tear gas into the room and the suspect eventually surrendered.
