Investigation into Shooting Incident at 8511 Leander
February 26, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at 8511 Leander about 2:35 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 25).
The male suspect, Codey Matthew Harris, 21, of the above address, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Robles and Officers I. Ulloa and E. Wohlgemuth reported:
At about 10:40 a.m., patrol officers were called to the above address in regards to an assault with a weapon. When officers arrived, they found Harris had assaulted his common-law wife and then barricaded himself inside the residence with a handgun. Patrol officers requested assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team and the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), who arrived a short time later. SWAT and HNT personnel made numerous attempts to communicate with Harris to facilitate a peaceful surrender. Harris refused all attempts to communicate and then shot himself. He was immediately transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.
