Investigation into Armed Suspect Shot at 4926 Chennault
September 8, 2015 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed suspect was shot by an HPD officer at 4926 Chennault about 1:55 a.m. on Saturday (September 5).
The suspect, Jeremiah Allen, (b/m, 21), was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. A photo of Allen is not available at this time.
Officer R. Pilling, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Pilling was sworn in as an officer in December 2013 and is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Olive and Officer S. Sylvester reported:
HPD patrol officers, riding a two-man unit, responded to a shooting call at the above address. Officers arrived and found Allen was firing a handgun into the air and yelling at people at the location. Officers gave repeated verbal commands to Allen, which he appeared to ignore. Allen then reached into his waistband, as if to grab his weapon, and turned towards the officers. Fearing for his life, and that of his partner, Officer Pilling discharged his duty weapon and Allen was struck. He was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
