Update: Suspects Arrested, Charged in Child's Death at 8600 Sterlingshire
November 24, 2015 - Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the death of a juvenile female found at 8600 Sterlingshire #115 about 12:30 a.m. on November 17.
The suspects, Racqual Thompson (b/f, 25) and Cornell Malone (b/m, 21), are each charged with four counts of endangering a child in the 263rd State District Court. Photos of both suspects are attached to this news release.
The victim, J'zyra Thompson, 19 months old, of the above address, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer R. Pemberton and Officer S. Overstreet reported:
Patrol officers were dispatched to an apartment at the above address to assist members of the Houston Fire Department. Upon arrival, a female child was found deceased next to a stove. The child had severe burn marks. The child's parents were not in the apartment when the incident occurred. Three other children were present at the time of the incident.
Further investigation by HPD homicide investigators led to charges being filed on the child's mother (Thompson) and her boyfriend (Malone), who is not the child's father. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident at their residence at 8600 Sterlingshire about 9:30 a.m. today (Nov. 24).
