January 28, 2015 - Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the death of a man at 8711 Town Park #2319 about 9:45 a.m. last Saturday (Jan. 17).
The suspects, Michael Gonzalez (H/m, 18) and Angel A. Mendoza (H/m, 21), are charged with capital murder in
the 209th State District Court. Photos of both suspects are attached to this news release.
The victim, Francisco Garcia, 74, of the above address, suffered blunt force trauma and strangulation. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer J. Villareal and Officer V. McLean reported:
Houston Fire Department personnel responded to the apartment at the above address regarding a check on welfare call. Mr. Garcia's grandson stated Garcia did not show up for work and the family became concerned and drove to his apartment. Family members found the front door to the apartment was locked, but the patio door was unlocked. They went inside and found Garcia deceased on the floor near the kitchen area. No signs of forced entry were found in the apartment.
Family members stated Garcia had recently purchased a gray, 2010 GMC truck, which is missing from the parking lot.
Further investigation determined Garcia had been killed during a robbery. The investigation further led to the identification of Gonzalez and Mendoza as suspects in this case. Gonzalez was subsequently arrested without incident last Friday (Jan. 23) and Mendoza was also arrested without incident on Tuesday (Jan. 27).
