Suspect Arrested in Shooting at 3525 Blodgett
August 27, 2015 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a male and female at 3525 Blodgett about 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday (August 26).
The suspect, Darrius T. Nichols (b/m, 20), is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The two victims were transported to an area hospital. The male is in critical condition and the female was treated and released.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Robles and Officers I. Ulloa and E. Wohlgemuth reported:
A Texas Southern University police officer responding to a disturbance in a dormitory parking lot observed a male suspect firing a gun toward a crowd. The TSU officer then instructed the suspect to drop the gun, but the suspect turned towards the officer with the gun still in his hand. The TSU officer discharged his duty weapon at the suspect but missed. At that time, the suspect surrendered and was placed in custody. When the shooting stopped and the suspect was placed in custody, officers learned two individuals had been shot by the suspect. Paramedics transported both victims to an area hospital.
Investigators were advised the female victim and the suspect are not TSU students. They are awaiting information on whether the male victim was a student.
As is customary when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division.
