January 13, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 8100 block of Swiftwater Lane about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 12).

The suspect, Filiberto Vega (H/m, DOB: 8/25/94), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 179th State District Court.  No photo of Vega is available at this time.

The female victim, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer B. Collins reported:

The suspect, Vega, was driving a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastbound on Swiftwater at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a brick mailbox and a cement culvert, killing the front seat passenger.

Further investigation determined Vega was intoxicated at the time of the accident and he was subsequently arrested and charged in this incident.
