December 15, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 12600 State Highway 288 about 4 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 14).

The two male victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer I. Jefferson reported:

An off-duty HPD officer observed the driver of a black Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on State Highway 288. The officer then saw the driver apparently lose control of the pickup truck, leave the roadway, go through a grassy field and strike a light pole, causing it to overturn. The driver and a rear seat passenger died at the scene. The officer then called 9-1-1 and helped remove the male front seat passenger from the vehicle. That passenger, who was wearing his seat belt, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.
