Suspect Arrested, Charged in 1995 Fatal Shooting
August 29, 2014 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the 1995 fatal shooting of a man at 6500 Ashcroft about 12:50 p.m. on November 12, 1995.
Chad Everett Bujano (b/m, 35) is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court. A photo of Bujano is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the death of Kristian Gaona, 18, of Houston.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants P. Motard and C. Elliott reported:
Mr. Gaona was walking north on Ashcroft with three other friends when they were approached by a black, newer-model SUV. The suspect in the vehicle began to verbally harass the group of friends. When Gaona did not respond, the suspect began firing his weapon at the group. Gaona was struck and then transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Further investigation identified Bujano, 16 years old at the time, as the shooter. Bujano was known to officers in the area and officers attempted to locate and arrest him, without success.
A recent review of the case revealed Bujano was living in the Houston area. He was then interviewed by HPD homicide investigators and admitted to his role in the incident. He stated he fled to Mexico to live with relatives after the shooting. When he returned to the United States, he used an alias name. Bujano is certified to be tried as an adult.
