September 09, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 9800 Bissonnet about 11:20 a.m. today (Sept. 9).

The identity of the male victim, 45, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer R. Davidson reported:

A black Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling west on Bissonnet while a Houston Fire Department ambulance with its lights and sirens activated was traveling south on Woodfair.  The victim was a heart attack patient being treated inside the ambulance.  The driver of the pickup truck failed to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle at the intersection and struck the ambulance.  At that time, EMS personnel and the patient were knocked around in the back of the ambulance.  The patient stopped breathing and was pronounced dead.  No one else was injured in the accident.  The driver of the pickup truck was questioned and issued a citation for failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
