Suspect Arrested, Charged in Infant's Death at 2901 Fulton
June 17, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of an infant at 2901 Fulton #541 about noon on March 5.
The suspect, Habibo Ibrahim (b/f, DOB: 1-1-86), is charged with injury to a child and reckless injury to a child in the 262nd State District Court. A photo of Ibrahim is attached to this news release.
The female victim, Honay Buwa, 11 months, of the above address, suffered severe burns and was pronouced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the infant girl died as a result of an acetaminophen overdose.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer Mike Miller reported:
Baby Buwa was found dead on March 5. Further investigation determined she had suffered severe burns on March 1. How those burns occurred is not clear, however, a homemade cocoa butter salve had been applied to them. Investigators found several discarded extra strength acetaminophen capsule casings in both the girl's room and the kitchen. Statements and evidence indicates the cocoa butter salve had been mixed with the contents of the acetaminophen capsules, resulting in the infant's death.
Further investigation led to charges being filed against the baby's mother, Ibrahim.
