June 17, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 9430 Richmond Avenue about 4:30 p.m. on June 11.
The suspect, Mauricio Ernesto Arevalo (H/m, DOB: 6-8-86), is charged with murder in the 185th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Kevin Moncada, 23, of Houston.
A 2011 photo of suspect Arevalo is attached to this news release. He is not in custody.
HPD Homicide Division Officers N. Rosenblatt and K. Daignault reported:
Mr. Moncada was with several friends in a parking lot at the above address when he was approached by Arevalo, a man he knew. One of Moncada's friends immediately approached Arevalo and tried to calm him down. Arevalo ignored the friend's pleas, exited his vehicle armed with a gun and shot Moncada several times. Arevalo fled and Moncada died at the scene.
An investigation determined that on June 1, Moncada and Arevalo had an altercation, which turned into a physical fight in which Arevalo punched Moncada in the face. After the fight, Arevalo continued to threaten Moncada with bodily harm and death.
Anyone with information on Arevalo's whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
