Investigation into Incident at 1018 Gessner Road

January 14, 2012 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an HPD officer discharged his duty weapon at an armed robbery suspect at 1018 Gessner Road about 8:40 p.m. last Saturday (Jan. 12).

Officer S. Gromyko, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident.  Officer Gromyko was sworn in as an officer in June 2009 and is assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer C. Scales and Officer I. Ulloa reported:

Officer Gromyko was working an approved extra job at an electronics store at the above address when three unkown suspects entered and attempted to rob the business.  During the incident, Officer Gromyko came face-to-face with one suspect who pointed a pistol at him.  Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his duty weapon towards the suspect, who does not appear to have been struck.  All three suspects fled the scene and remain at large.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
