August 26, 2013 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 1000 Villa de Matel about 10:30 p.m. last Thursday (Aug. 22).

The victim, Gerardo Villegas Candelaria, 41, of Houston, suffered gunshot wounds to his torso and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Friday (Aug. 23).

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers R. Cervantes and S. Straughter reported:

HPD officers responded to a discharge of firearms call at the above address and learned individuals, in separate vehicles, had exchanged gunfire and crashed their vehicles into one another. The victim, Mr. Candelaria, was found lying on the ground at 7412 Capitol. A witness told police the victim was involved in the shooting at the Villa de Matel address.
