Houston Police Department
Investigation into Incident at 19335 Gulf Freeway

October 23, 2012 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which a Lakeview Police Department officer discharged her duty weapon at a robbery suspect at 19335 Gulf Freeway about 1:30 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 22).

The Lakeview Police officer was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Odom and Officer M. Coleman reported:

A Lakeview Police officer was off-duty, in full uniform, and working an extra job at a jewelry store at the above address when an unknown male suspect entered the business and asked to look at jewelry. When the store employee approached the suspect, the suspect pepper-sprayed the officer, procudeced out a weapon and demanded merchandise. Fearing for her safety and that of the employees inside the store, the Lakeview PD officer discharged her duty weapon. The suspect fled out the back of the store with the Lakeview PD officer in pursuit. The suspect then got into a silver, four-door vehicle of unknown make or model and fled the scene.

It is believed the suspect, described only as a black male, 6 feet, 3 inches tall, with a thin build, was possibly struck by the gunfire.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
