October 4, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 11300 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 3).

The victim, Desmond Thomas, 11, of Houston, was transported to Texas Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kung and Senior Police Officer T. Nguyen reported:

The driver of a gray Lincoln Navigator was traveling westbound on the Katy Freeway service road when Desmond ran into traffic. Desmaond was attempting to cross the service road and the driver was unable to avoid the accident. The driver did not show any signs of intoxication or impairment at the scene. He was questioned and released.

The investigation is continuing.
