Houston Police Warn Parents Not to Leave Children Unattended in Vehicles

May 15, 2012 - At a news conference last Thursday (May 10), Houston police commanders and officers joined with the Greater Houston Loss Prevention Alliance (GHLPA) and other community organizations, to demonstrate the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles.

In conjunction with the demonstration, safety tips were distributed to shoppers at Walmart's Silber location. Video of the demonstration is linked below.

"I want to remind parents to never leave your child alone in a car," said HPD Assistant Chief Dan Perales.  "In a matter of minutes, a car's temperature can increase substantially and quickly reach dangerous levels here in Houston."

This event is part of the GHLPA's "Child Safety Starts with YOU" campaign that includes weekly events focused on child safety.  An event this Thursday (May 17) will focus on children and shopping cart and parking lot safety at Kroger at 1505 Wirt Road.

The GHLPA is comprised of a partnership between the HPD and seven major retailers throughout the city and includes HEB, Kroger, Randalls, Fiesta, Walmart, Target and Walgreens.
