June 25, 2012 - Numerous media outlets are reporting a suspect charged in a fatal shooting in Hitchcock, Texas, on Saturday (June 23) is a retired Houston police officer.

The suspect, Dennis Roy Redding, 64, did not retire from the Houston Police Department. He resigned from the department back in 1978.

His status should be referred to as a "former officer."
