Mr. Johnson was operating a four-wheeled mobility scooter, with his one-year-old son in his lap, on the sidewalk in the 9300 block of West Montgomery. Johnson maneuvered into a moving lane of traffic to avoid water and mud on the sidewalk when his scooter was struck by a silver Ford Explorer, driven by Farley, northbound on West Montgomery. Johnson was taken to the hospital where he died. His son suffered minor injuries and was treated and released to family members.
Further investigation determined Farley was intoxicated and he was taken into custody at the scene.
