February 17, 2012 - Charges are pending against an armed suspect shot by a Harris County Sheriff's deputy at 18100 McKay about 8 a.m. today (Feb. 17).

The suspect, Jeremy Perkins (w/m, DOB: 9-14-80) has a pending charge of aggravated assault against a police officer.  Perkins sustained a non life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Bobby Brown, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Chandler and Senior Police Officer K. Carr reported:

Local and federal law enforcement agents participating in a multi-agency task force were attempting to arrest Perkins for a federal narcotics warrant when he fled into a wooded lot in the 18100 block of McKay.  Officers knew that Perkins had a past history of carrying a firearm and had recently made threats to the safety of law enforcement officers if they attempted to arrest him.  When Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Brown located Perkins in the woods he saw Perkins had a pistol in his hand.  Deputy Brown gave Perkins commands to drop the weapon.  Perkins refused to do so and instead made threats against Deputy Brown and then pointed his weapon in the direction of the deputy.  Deputy Brown, fearing for his safety, discharged his duty weapon at least one time, striking the suspect.  Perkins was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment of his wounds.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
