October 17, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 9400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 8:30 p.m. last Friday (Oct. 14).
Michael Anthony Flores (H/m, 10-8-74) is charged with intoxication manslaughter and accident involving injury/death in the 263rd State District Court. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Park and Officer H. Nguyen reported:
The victim's Chevrolet Suburban had mechanical problems so he pulled over to the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the North Freeway to attempt to make repairs. While the victim was working on the engine compartment, the suspect (Flores), who was driving a GMC Sierra, failed to drive in a single lane and struck the rear of the Suburban, which then struck the victim. The impact knocked the victim off of the elevated mainlanes of the freeway onto the service road below. Flores then fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended by an off-duty police officer a short distance away. The victim died a short time later at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.
