October 17, 2011 - The fatal shooting of a man at 1300 West Pierce Street about 5:50 p.m. last Friday (Oct. 14) will likely be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The deceased male, Michael Goodner, 38, of the above address, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter, a 70-year-old male, was questioned and released pending further investigation.

HPD Homicide Division Officers C. Cardenas and I. Ulloa reported:

Mr. Goodner and the elderly male got into an altercation in which Goodner assaulted the older male. The male told investigators that knowing the violent history of Goodner, and fearing for his life, he pulled a gun and fatally shot Goodner.

The investigation is ongoing and pending further discussion with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
