May 2, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 4611 Collingsworth about 2:10 a.m. on Saturday (April 30).

The suspect, Jorge Armando Mendoza (H/m, DOB: 10-18-78), is charged with manslaughter in the 179th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Laura Anna Guillen, 31, of Houston.  Ms. Guillen suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she later died.  A photo of suspect Mendoza is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer B. Evans and Officers T. Andrade and L. Carballo reported:

Ms. Guillen was in the driver's seat of a vehicle.  Mendoza, seated directly behind her, attempted to pull a weapon from his right front shorts pocket to see if it was loaded.  As Mendoza checked the weapon, he said he placed his finger on the trigger and the weapon fired.  Ms. Guillen was then struck in the back.  She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Mendoza was taken into custody at the scene.
