Update: Fatal Stabbing at 11490 Harwin
June 17, 2011 - Houston police have learned the identity of a man fatally stabbed at 11490 Harwin about 9 p.m. on Thursday (June 16).
The victim, James Mundo, 70, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants T. Biggs, R. Blain, Senior Police Officer J. Robles and Officer M. Condon reported:
Mr. Mundo was driving his van east on Harwin and stopped at the red light at Boone Road when a witness heard an argument between a female and males from inside the van. A black female and two black males were then seen running from the van, which then drove several hundred yards and crashed through a metal fence at an apartment complex. Mundo was found with at least one stab wound to the right leg and died at the scene.
Further investigation has determined Mundo, an air conditioning repairman, was alone in his van and driving to another job location. When he stopped at the red light on Harwin and Boone Road, the female and two males jumped into Mundo's van and attempted to rob him. During the robbery, Mundo was stabbed and the three suspects fled on foot.
There were several vehicles at the intersection at the time and people at a corner store who witnessed the incident. Those witnesses might believe the incident was just an argument in which people went their separate ways. Investigators are urging any of those witnesses to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
