June 13, 2011 - Houston police have arrested two suspects charged in the death of a child at 5801 Sunforest #3011 about 12:15 p.m. on June 3.
The victim's mother, Maciel Delosangeles Sandoval (H/f, DOB: 10-24-83), and another female, Judith Elida Herrera-Garcia (H/f, DOB: 10-13-75), are charged with injury to a child in the 262nd State District Court. Mug shots of the suspects are not available at this time.
The victim, Betsabeth Sandoval, 4, of the above address, was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences remains pending.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Hanslik and Senior Police Officer R. Swainson reported:
Maciel Sandoval told investigators she went to work about 8 a.m., leaving her daughter in the care of her roommate, Herrera-Garcia. Around noon, Herrera-Garcia reported finding Betsabeth lying unresponsive on the floor. Herrera-Garcia called Sandoval and attempted to perform CPR in an effort to revive Betsabeth. Emergency crews were called to the home and Betsabeth was transported to the hospital where she died.
Sandoval, Herrera-Garcia and Herrera-Garcia's 14-year-old son were questioned and released.
A subsequent investigation led to both Sandoval and Herrera-Garcia being charged due to the poor condition of the child. The suspects are long time companions and both bore responsibility for the child's health and subsequent death.
