UPDATE: Suspect Charged, Sought in Fatal Shooting at 9901 Richmond
July 26, 2011 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 9901 Richmond about 7:35 p.m. on July 10.
Christian Meza (H/m, DOB: 8-4-91) is charged with murder in the 351st State District Court. A photo of Meza is attached to this news release. He is not in custody.
The victim, Daniel Pacheco, 18, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants B. Williams, J. Wilson and Officers M. Khan and D. Gunter reported:
Witnesses originally reported a group of five friends was drinking beer, and passing around and playing with a revolver inside an apartment at the above location. One of the individuals, believing the gun was unloaded, pointed it at another person in the group and pulled the trigger. The gun discharged and Mr. Pacheco was struck one time in the head. The group then fled the apartment, though one of them called the police before doing so. Three of the four group members returned to the scene and gave statements to investigators.
Further investigation determined the friends were not passing around the revolver and partying, but were instead preparing to leave the apartment. Meza saw Pacheco load the revolver and took it from him. While Pacheco was putting on his shoes, Meza pointed the weapon at him and pulled the trigger. Pacheco was struck in the top of the head and died.
Meza then fled the scene with the pistol. He remains at large.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Christian Meza is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
