Suspect Charged in 2006 Fatal Shooting

December 5, 2011 - A suspect in a fatal shooting that occured at 4300 Saunders Road about 12 p.m. on February 5, 2006 has been charged.


Ray Narciso Contreras (H/m, DOB: 2-1-75) is charged with capital murder in the 263rd State District Court. Contreras is currently in federal custody in the Bureau of Prisons on an unrelated charge. A 2005 mugshot of Contreras is attached to this news release.

Contreras is charged in the death of Robert Antonio Saravia, 26, of Houston. Mr. Saravia suffered gunshot wounds and blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts, Senior Police Officer R. Moreno, Officers J. Sosa and C. Full and FBI Special Agent T. Burns reported:

On February 5, 2006, Mr. Saravia was attending a party at Contreras' residence. Saravia and Contreras became involved in a verbal argument that turned into a physical fight. Contreras and several others at the party began to beat Saravia. Contreras and the others then abducted Saravia and transported him to a remote location in the 4300 block of Saunders. Contreras then continued to assault Saravia, attempted to strangle him and then shot him. Saravia was then thrown into a ditch containing mud and several inches of water. Saravia's head was held down in the mud until he suffocated.

Further investigation, witness statements and DNA evidence from the murder scene identified Contreras as the suspect in this case.
