August 17, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5100 block of the Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 12:40 a.m. today (Aug. 17).

The male victim, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer A. Hart reported:

According to witnesses, the victim was operating a gray Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed eastbound on the Katy Freeway.  At some point, for reasons unknown, the motorcyclist lost control, causing the motorcycle to hit the pavement.  The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements determined no other vehicles were involved in this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
