Fatal Traffic Accident at 12800 East Freeway

September 23, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 12800 block of the East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) service road about 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 22). 

The identity and cause of death of the male victim, in his 30s, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeants D. Arnold, M. Bearden and Senior Police Officers R. Ontiveros and T. Turner reported: 

A witness saw a white Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed east on the East Freeway service road near Normandy.  As the witness exited the freeway and went to the underpass, he saw guardrail damage and tire tracks leading to Greens Bayou.  The witness then called 9-1-1.  

The HPD Dive Team responded to the above location, conducted a search of the bayou and later that day, recovered the pickup.  About 10:45 a. m. (Sept. 23), the victim was found about 150 feet north of the west bank of the bayou. 

The investigation is continuing.
