Fatal Shooting at 7700 West Airport March 8, 2010 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of two men and one robbery suspect at 7700 West Airport #721 about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday (March 7). The suspect, Marcus Dwayne Whitaker, 33, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other males, Patrick D. Sims, 28, of Houston, and Jeffrey Luis Chaney Jr., 25, of Rosharon, suffered gunshot wounds to the head. Sims was pronounced dead at the scene and Chaney was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Senior Police Officer T. Tyler reported: Mr. Chaney was held at gunpoint by Whitaker at the doorway of his friend’s, Patrick Sims, apartment. Chaney was forced inside the apartment and Sims, seeing Whitaker with a gun, also grabbed a gun. There was an exchange of gunfire and all three men were fatally struck. Further investigation determined Sims managed to shoot Whitaker, who in turn, fired his gun into the apartment and shot both Sims and Chaney. Two females inside the apartment at the time of the shooting were not injured. Narcotics and cash were also recovered at the scene. The motive for the shooting at this time appears to be robbery.
