Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 2550 Joel Wheaton
July 12, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 2550 Joel Wheaton about 9 p.m. on Saturday (July 10).
Jerry Lewis Bynum (b/m, DOB: 12-1-63) is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 228th State District Court.
The victim, Sabinus Uche Okere, 23, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
HPD Homicide Sergeant T. Hanslik and Senior Police Officers M. Waters and R. Swainson reported:
HPD patrol officers, responding to a reported shooting at the West Hollow Park Apartments, discovered the victim, Mr. Okere, lying in the grass near the parking lot. The motive for the shooting appears to be an argument between two groups of people.
The investigation subsequently identified Bynum as a suspect in the shooting.
