August 16, 2010 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of an infant found unresponsive in a bathtub at 7514 South Gessner about 9 p.m. on Saturday (August 14).
The victim, a five-month-old boy, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B.E. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R.A. Moreno reported:
Officers responded to an infant drowning at the above address. The infant's mother reported she put her son in an infant bathtub and placed that bathtub inside a full-sized bathtub and turned on the water. She left the infant unattended for a short time. While she was away, the tub drain clogged and the tub began to fill with water. The infant fell off of its baby bathtub and into the tub filling with water. Houston Fire Department personnel were able to revive the infant and transported him to the hospital in critical condition. The baby later died at the hospital.
