Fatal Traffic Accident at 11400 Katy Freeway

April 5, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 11400 block of the Katy Freeway (Interstate 10 West) about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday (Apr. 3).

The identity on the deceased female victim, 37, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Wilson and Officer B. Tran reported:

The female victim was driving a Kia Sedona inbound on the Katy Freeway when she was advised by many other motorists that her vehicle was on fire. The woman began to exit the freeway and slowed her vehicle. While on the exit ramp, she jumped from the vehicle as it was moving and on fire. When she jumped, she struck her head on concrete and suffered severe head and spinal trauma. Her unoccupied vehicle came to a stop on the service road. Paramedics transported the woman to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An HFD arson investigator was called and found nothing suspicious about the vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
