Suspect Wanted, Charged in Assault On Female at 9700 Braeburn Glen

June 16, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in an assault on a female severely burned at 9700 Braeburn Glen about 11:40 p.m. on Sunday (June 14).

Uriel Vargas Alvarado (H/m, DOB: 3-4-84) is charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury in the 338th State District Court. He is accused of assaulting and burning his girlfriend, Juana Patricia DeLeon Hernandez, 33, who was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. HPD Homicide Division Sergeants W. Meeler and B. Roberts, Senior Police Officers B. Evans and R. Chappell, and Officer K. Lopez reported:

Ms. Hernandez was in her apartment when she heard a knock at her door and opened it. At that time, her boyfriend, Alvarado, punched her and knocked her to the ground. He then threw gasoline on her body, set her on fire and fled the scene. Neighbors heard Hernandez's screams and came to her assistance. She told neighbors her boyfriend had assaulted her.

Paramedics transported her to the hospital where doctors said she suffered fourth degree burns to more than 70 percent of her body and remains in critical condition.
