Fatal Traffic Accident at 6400 Gulf Freeway

December 7, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 6400 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 5:45 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 5).

The victim, a male pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Chambers and Police Officer D. Hall reported:

The victim was traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway in a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when he stopped to avoid a traffic accident at the above address. The male got out of his vehicle and was standing near the front of it when the driver of a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control of his vehicle due to the icy road conditions. The Jeep then struck the rear of the Toyota pickup truck. The driver of the Toyota was either struck by his own pickup truck or jumped off the overpass to avoid being hit. His body was discovered below, on the north shoulder of the service road.
