Male Dies in Incident at 8102 Irvington August 10, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the in-custody death of a male following an incident at 8102 Irvington about 10:25 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 7). The male’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R.D. Chandler and Officer L.K. Lovelace reported: The male entered the La Rinconcita Bar at 8102 Irvington and was exhibiting both delusional and physical medical problems. He began harassing patrons in the bar, grabbing them and claiming he was being chased by people trying to kill him. None of the witnesses saw anyone chasing or attempting to harm the male. After the male was escorted outside the bar, witnesses called police and fire personnel to the scene. The witnesses saw the male then crawl underneath a vehicle and heard him claiming there was someone under the vehicle trying to hurt him. Paramedics arrived and attempted to render aid to the male, but he became combative with them. An HPD officer arrived and assisted in detaining the male while paramedics tried to determine the cause of the male’s instability. While holding the male down, he lost consciousness and lost his pulse. Paramedics immediately began performing CPR and transported the male to LBJ Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses told investigators they did not see police or fire personnel try to harm the male in any way. As is customary in in-custody death incidents, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions. JFC/JKS
