Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer at 5706 Richmond August 12, 2008 - Charges are pending against several suspects arrested following a shooting incident that resulted in the wounding of two of the suspects and the aggravated assault of a Houston Police officer at 5706 Richmond about 12:05 a.m. on Monday (August 11). The first suspect, a black male, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken into custody at the scene. He was then transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was treated and released. A second suspect, a Hispanic male, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in unknown condition by a private vehicle. Their identities are being withheld at this time. HPD Officer C. W. Jones, who discharged his service weapon in this incident, is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division. He was sworn in as an officer in March of 1998. Officer Jones was not injured in this incident. HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers J. Selvera and D. Vasquez reported: HPD officers were working an approved extra job at the “Uptown Tapas Bar” at 5706 Richmond Avenue when they heard gunshots coming from the rear parking lot. According to witnesses, a black male and a Hispanic male were in a physical fight and were both armed with weapons. At some point during the fight, there was an exchange of gunfire and the black male and one of the Hispanic males were shot. The Hispanic males fled the scene in an unknown make or model vehicle and the black male attempted to flee on foot. Officer Jones attempted to detain the black male when the suspect turned and pointed a gun at the officer. Officer Jones, in fear of his life, discharged his duty weapon but did not strike the black male. He was arrested at the scene. All suspects involved are in custody and criminal charges are pending. |
