Fatal Shooting at 5218 Lotus August 1, 2008 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of three others at 5218 Lotus about 11:15 a.m. on Thursday (July 31). The victim, 23, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.E. Elliott and Senior Police Officers A. Mares and J. Johnston reported: The victim, accompanied by other males, drove to the suspect’s residence on Lotus to confront him about a theft that had occurred at a nearby vehicle repair shop. While one of the males argued with the suspect, the victim pulled a handgun and shot one of the suspect’s friends, who was also at the location, before he shot the suspect. The suspect obtained a gun of his own and returned fire, striking the victim and the victim’s friend. The victim’s friend fled and was taken to a nearby fire station by other persons. He was then transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. The suspect’s friend was shot in the leg and drove to the corner of Lotus and South Post Oak, where he was then transported to a local hospital by HFD. The suspect was shot in the stomach and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital by HFD paramedics. Investigators are attempting to locate other witnesses who were with the victim that can provide information of the events that led to the shooting.
