Incident at 6100 Marinette September 10, 2007 - Charges have been filed in the fatal shooting of a man in the 6100 block of Marinette about 9:30 a.m. on July 29. The suspect, Awnee Musa Valentine (b/m, DOB: 2-27-83), is charged with capital murder in the 209th State District Court. The victim, Miguel Pleytez, 62, of 6100 Marinette #B905, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition and was on life support until he died on August 21. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.J. Brooks and Officer M. F. Waters reported: Mr. Pleytez was walking in the courtyard of the Royal Oaks apartment complex and was approached from behind by Valentine who put him in a chokehold and took his wallet. Pleytez fought back and took his wallet back from Valentine, who again, took the victim’s wallet and pushed him down. Valentine then shot Pleytez once in the torso and fled on foot through the parking lot. He was seen getting into the passenger side of a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Witness statements and evidence from the scene identified Valentine as the shooter in this crime. Valentine is currently in the Harris County Jail on an unrelated charge.
