Investigators “Coil Up” Copper Thieves

November 1, 2007 - After a lengthy investigation, officers from the Houston Police Department’s Burglary and Theft Division have arrested and charged two suspects responsible for copper thefts from an oil field business at 6401 West Sam Houston Parkway in northwest Houston. Photos of both suspects are attached to this news release.

The thefts, which occurred between October 2006 and August 2007, totaled $971, 535.

The suspects, Joseph William Kippes (w/m, DOB: 4-10-77), an ex-employee of Letourneau Technologies, and his wife Camille Kippes (b/f, DOB: 5-28-83), are charged with aggregate felony theft in the 351st State District Court.

According to investigators, evidence provided determined Joseph Kippes stole a large amount of copper bars while employed at Letourneau Technologies. Further investigation determined Kippes, along with his wife Camille, sold the copper bars to C & D Scrap Metal, located at 815 West 25th Street.

Warrants were issued for their arrests and on Monday (October 29) both suspects were arrested at their residence in the 11800 block of Chetman without incident.
