Incident at 4200 Schuler

March 1, 2007 -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 4200 Schuler on Wednesday, February 28, about 1:15 a.m.

The victim is identified as Israel Scott, 30, of 5521 Malmedy. He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died.

The suspect, Cody Lemont St. Junius (b/m, DOB: 12-16-80), is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. D. Evans and Officer T. Cunningham reported:

According to witnesses, several friends were congregating in the street when Mr. Scott and St. Junius got into an argument. St. Junius went to his vehicle and returned to the location to confront Scott. St. Junius produced a 9MM handgun and shot Scott several times, and then fled the location at a high rate of speed.

St. Junius later had a family member call police to turn himself in and HPD officers transported him to surrender to homicide investigators at HPD Headquarters at 1200 Travis.
