2nd Update on Incident at 3777 South Gessner July 31, 2007 - Houston police have arrested a second suspect charged in the attempted capital murder of a peace officer at 3777 South Gessner about 8 a.m. on July 21. Alejandro Gonzales (H/m, DOB: 7/22/86), wanted and charged with felony escape and felony evading, was arrested on Monday (July 30) without incident. The other suspect, Erik Rivera Garzon (H/m, DOB: 6/6/86), was arrested on July 23 and charged with attempt to commit capital murder. Charges against both suspects are filed in the 180th State District Court. The peace officer, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy J. Urena, was not injured in the incident. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Officer M.F. Waters reported: Deputy Urena was working an extra job at the Boca Springs apartment complex when he attempted to arrest two suspects who burglarized several vehicles in the complex’s parking lot. As he attempted to arrest Gonzales, Garzon shot at Deputy Urena, who was able to return fire. Garzon and Gonzales fled on foot and were not apprehended. The follow-up investigation identified Garzon and Gonzales as the suspects in this case. Investigators determined Garzon was being treated at an area hospital for gunshot wounds to the side and leg as a result of the incident. As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
