Incident at 17030 Imperial Valley
September 16, 2006 -- Charges
have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing
of a man around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday (Sept. 14).
The suspect, Latonya Monique Riggins (b/f, DOB:
1-30-75), was arrested and charged with murder in the 174th State
District Court. She is accused in the killing of her boyfriend
whose identity is pending notification to the next of kin.
HPD Homicide Division Officers F.T. Hernandez
and J.C. Bonaby reported:
Riggins and her 21-year-old boyfriend lived together
in New Orleans, Louisiana prior to arriving in Houston during
the Hurricane Katrina evacuation. Upon arrival in Houston, the
couple each received their own apartment in the same apartment
complex. Since that time, there have been numerous police calls
for service regarding domestic violence at both apartments involving
the couple. On September 14th, Riggins called HPD and reported
finding the victim lying on the balcony of her apartment suffering
from apparent stab wounds. Once questioned by HPD Homicide investigators,
she admitted stabbing the victim several times in the back following
yet another domestic dispute. The victim was transported to LBJ
Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
