Update on Incident at 8100 Mariah
October 23, 2006 -- A suspect
wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 8100 Mariah
about 1:45 p.m. on July 25, 2006 has been arrested.
The suspect, George Washington Mosley (b/m, DOB
12-20-79), was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals agents near
Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 27.
He was wanted in the killing of Rashad Amir Smith, 22, of 4040
Synott. Mosley is charged with murder in the 248th State District
Court.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W.J. Anthony and
Officer D.W. Arnold reported:
Officers responded to a person down call and
found Mr. Smith lying on the side of the road. Witnesses reported
hearing gunshots as Smith walked between two parked vehicles,
a cream colored Ford Expedition or Explorer and a black SUV, possibly
a Ford Escape. After the shooting, the vehicles fled the scene.
Smith suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead
at Ben Taub General Hospital.
Later that day, Smith's sport utility vehicle,
a gray Mercury Mariner, was found burned in the 7600 block of
Dornay. Investigators believe that vehicle was the black SUV witnesses
described as leaving the scene following the shooting.
During the follow-up investigation, Mosley was
developed as a suspect and charged in the murder. Following his
arrest, he was also charged with being a felon in possession of
a firearm.
