Incident at 10211 Sugar Branch
November 17, 2006 -- The fatal
shooting of a man at 10211 Sugar Branch on Thursday (November
16) at 7:25 p.m. will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending
notification to his next of kin. He sustained a gunshot wound
to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.D. Newcomb and
Officer A. Mares reported:
The homeowner, Carla McKinnie, 37, was in her
apartment when the victim came over to discuss personal matters.
Ms. McKinnie felt threatened by some of the statements the victim
was making. It appears the victim acted as if he had a gun in
his jacket. Ms. McKinnie produced a weapon and fired one time
at the victim. The victim was struck in the chest, walked to the
parking lot and collapsed. He was found unarmed.
Ms. McKinnie gave her statement to investigators,
and upon consultation with the Harris County District Attoney's
office, it was decided this case would be referred to a Harris
County Grand Jury.
