Incident at 210 Avondale Street #8
March 12, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating an aggravated assault of a police officer at
210 Avondale Street #8 on March 11, 2006 about 10:30 p.m.
HPD Homicide Division Officers P.T. Yochum and
I.F. Flores reported: Officers of the HPD Narcotics Division were
investigating a narcotics complaint at the Avondale apartment
complex. Undercover officers were attempting to purchase narcotics
when the suspect approached them at the door. He was armed with
what appeared to be a small automatic pistol that he was holding
on his waistband. The suspect displayed and reached for his gun
and the officer fearing for his safety, drew his service pistol
and fired one shot at the suspect. The suspect sustained one gunshot
wound to his abdomen and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital
where was later pronounced dead. It was later determined that
the suspect had displayed a toy gun.
As in all officer-involved shootings, the HPD
Internal Affairs and Homicide Divisions, and the Harris County
Civil Rights Unit are investigating this incident.
