Update on Incident at 7620 Katy Freeway

March 11, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 7620 Katy Freeway about 9:30 p.m. on February 22.

Suspect #1, Joseph Dennis Lewis (b/m, DOB 5/7/80), is charged with murder in the 178th State District Court. Suspect #2, Shelton Dewayne Strawder (b/m, DOB 12/3/84), is charged with tampering with evidence in the 178th State District Court for his actions following the murder.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales and Officer M. S. Walker reported

Michael Gutierrez, 25, address unknown, suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Gutierrez went to meet a friend at a nearby restaurant for dinner and drinks. Witnesses stated they heard a single gunshot and then observed a dark blue or black, four-door mid-sized Sedan leaving the scene. Mr. Gutierrez ran a short distance and then collapsed in the parking lot near the restaurant. Investigators believe the shooting was drug-related.
