Incident at 6315 Marinwood

March 7, 2006 -- A suspect is being sought for questioning in the fatal shooting of his stepfather at 6315 Marinwood about 7:50 p.m. on Monday (Mar. 6).

The suspect, identified as Alexis C. Platero (H/m, DOB 8-11-87), fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim, Abner Sanchez Lopez, 29, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M.K. Peters and W. Gonzalez reported:

Mr. Lopez and his stepson got into an argument that escalated when Platero left the family's home and returned a short time later with a pistol. Lopez's wife, who is Platero's mother, managed to separate the two men from a further altercation inside the home.

Platero was still armed with the pistol when the two men went outside. Once there, Lopez's wife heard a gunshot and found him wounded. Platero then fled the scene. Investigators only want to question Platero at this time before determining whether to file charges in this case.
